"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy..." John 10:10a
Each year at Christmas we hear the tragic story of families who have had their homes broken into and all of their Christmas gifts stolen. When we read these stories we cringe in disbelief. How could someone steal gifts that were meant to make an innocent person feel love, joy, and peace?
The Bible reminds us of a more tragic story and it's a story that includes you and me. In John, chapter 10, verse 10, Jesus reminds us of this truth: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy..." What is it that makes this crime so tragic? Just like those gifts that are stolen from innocent people at Christmas, the enemy is looking to steal the gifts of life right from under us in our own lives. From the beginning of time, God's design is that you and I would be the image of Him. Because of sin and our own selfishness, that perfect design was distorted and the enemy is now trying to convince us that the pursuit of sin and ourselves is better than pursuing Christ. Don't let him steal the gift of life from you!
As you examine this past year of your life, what is the enemy using to steal, kill, and destroy the gifts of life God has for you? If we truly want to experience the greatness of who God is, then we must protect those gifts from the enemy. As you lock the doors of your car and your home to prevent being robbed of those awesome Christmas gifts you have purchased for those that are close to you this season, be reminded to protect the gifts of life from the enemy who is preying on your personal life as well.
Prayer: God, remind us of the gifts of life you have provided to us and give us wisdom and understanding on how to protect those from the enemy who is looking to destroy us.
